Well, I don't normally write much about personal stuff here, but it's just getting too much now. I woke up an hour ago and since then my partner called to tell me he'd been fired for "complaining about his job to his staff", and my Mum called to tell me my Dad's had another seizure (he was diagnosed with a malignant meningioma in his brain a couple of months ago, it was surgically removed and he's had radiotherapy to try and prevent recurrence, but now he's still having seizures, and we really don't think he should be). My own problems I can cope with, but now I just don't really know what to do. Edit: happily, we heard back from the consultants treating my Dad that the seizures are almost certainly caused by brain swelling resulting from the radiotherapy, and they should likely go away when the swelling goes down. So that's a big relief. Now, back to job hunting...

Hi, Adam. This world isn't fair. Good people should only be rewarded with good things. Over your last line. The only thing you can do is stay hard and strong. You must be hard and strong to be the strenght of yours. Try to help as well as you can. There's the only thing that they waits from you. Believe me. This is my work too, lately. Do not give up, man.

It's sad to hear about that, Adam. So please hold out hope and don't ever give up. The Mandriva Users Community is very concerned about your situation, even more after reading this post. Your last edit gives us a great relief. Sincerely, we wish you the best, we also wish the best to your relatives, specially to your father, and we hope that everything gets better from now on. Keep it up, Adam. You are the best.

Some of my family members are going through similar health problems. I can only imagine how it is for you, with job worries on top of that. My thoughts are with you, Adam, and with your father and your parter. Best to you all.

Chin up kid. You'll find something. If not you know you'd be welcomed home with open arms. Mum misses you.

Adam, It can always be worst. You could be in charge of "Microsoft's Vista Fixing Department" or, even worst, "Microsoft's Lack of Communication and Weird Marketing Department" :) Hope I got you a slight smile. Salut, SinnerBOFH

sinner: hey, I'd love either one of those jobs - don't those guys just sit around and drink beer all day? ;)

I'm sorry to hear all that. But I did just get a silly idea. Wouldn't there be a market niche for you, doing what you do best, independent Linux consultancy with a Mandriva specialisation?

reinout: I'm not sure there's enough people willing to pay for that...

Ey, Adam. Two days ago, in a late-night show here in Spain, i saw an interesting interview with a dude who claims that it's a good and easy way to overcome the actual crisis. And spanish people we are experts doing this: to invent professions. Maybe i must invent one for me, too... "Third party profession inventer"? :D

suser: thanks :) However, I won't work for Novell. I know some guys there, like Michael Meeks, who do awesome work, and I respect their significant upstream contributions, but I can't get over the Microsoft deal, I'm afraid.
suser wrote on 2008-12-06 20:37:
Well i think it's just a deal between two companies. It does not affect me as a user of openSUSE. But I can understund your point of view.
